Vilaboi Went to War
An archival investigation into the local victims during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and World War II (1939-1945).
This project pays tribute to all those individuals born in Sant Boi, of whom, in some cases, we know little more than their names. They were direct or indirect victims of war: repression, disappearances, combat deaths, illnesses, fatalities in concentration camps or in exile.
The materials provided by the City Archive consist of data and photographs referring to these Sant Boi natives, some of whom we have more information about, while others remain unfortunately anonymous. The challenge is to organise and present this information to the public with the sensitivity the topic demands, in a didactic manner, providing historical context to the exhibition.
To personify each of these disappeared individuals, we decided to design individual cards for the victims. This approach pays homage to each one, contextualising their stories and visually representing the volume of those who disappeared.
In order to provide context to the documentation, we created a scenography using original materials and props tailored for the occasion.
