Are you thinking about launching an exhibition project?

We assist in research, management and discourse development.

How do we approach curating at Misterio Studio?

We see curation as a great opportunity to showcase, educate and disseminate art and culture from a contemporary perspective. From creating a sensory space to the interactivity of new technologies, everything is possible when we adopt different techniques and put them in the service of culture through a cross-cutting perspective.

We collaborate with a team of historians specialising in archaeology, documentation and archiving who help us develop the discourse and necessary research in projects that require a preliminary study. We handle cultural, historical and heritage content with care and rigour.

Experience in Curating Art and History Exhibitions

In recent years, temporary exhibitions have gained great importance for museums, foundations, interpretation centres and even private cultural centres and galleries. In this context, the role of the curator becomes crucial, as they are responsible for developing the exhibition’s discourse.

They are generally experts in the exhibition’s theme, familiar with the works or objects to be displayed and make key decisions for the project’s development. The curator is in charge of various functions related to the exhibition, from concept to execution. They are a cross-cutting figure that brings content to the public and acts as a liaison between the institution and other stakeholders.

What are the functions of a curator?

Beyond being a highly specialised figure, a curator encompasses various knowledge beyond purely cultural or artistic aspects.

Among the functions they may have are:

  • Development of the discourse and theoretical framework of the exhibition.
  • Research tasks on the theme to be addressed.
  • Generates or manages the list of pieces to be exhibited and their order.
  • Supervises loans of artworks and other related tasks.
  • Writes or supervises exhibition texts.
  • Technical coordination of production and assembly.
  • Exhibition touring.
  • Writing and/or supervision of the exhibition catalogue.
  • Public dissemination and mediation for the exhibition.

Depending on the scope and characteristics of the project, the curator handles all or only some of these functions, always prioritising their criteria regarding the theoretical discourse and exhibition pieces, which can be considered the two most relevant functions. In fact, in many cases, they can be considered the director of the exhibition project, setting the guidelines and coordinating the entire analysis and production process.
