We unfold the initial period of Esteve Lucerón, a prominent figure in Spanish photography recognised for his documentary work on the Gypsy community.

During his early years as a photographer, Lucerón resided in L’Hospitalet, capturing its evolving landscape—a city in profound transformation. He focused particularly on the residents of La Florida neighbourhood between 1948 and 1980. At that time, La Florida was an underserved neighbourhood where street life fostered collective solidarity in response to the economic crisis that struck the population in the 1980s.

The task was to shape a retrospective exhibition featuring Lucerón’s earliest and lesser-known photographs, requiring delicate treatment to bring us closer to the residents of L’Hospitalet, the exhibition’s target audience.

We crafted an exhibition itinerary that transports the viewer to that era through three thematic areas. The design aligns with the workers’ and neighbourhood struggles, crucial in those decades for transforming the city. The arrangement of the works echoes street graphic communication (posters and banners), connecting with that historical moment.
